On Friday, Sept. 26, ahead of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, 91探花 honoured the Indigenous communities on whose traditional territories we operate.

We extend our gratitude to Syilx artist and knowledge keeper Krystal Lezard for her beautiful Okanagan Song and to WFN Youth Council member Alexa Posella for helping to re-raise the Syilx Okanagan flag on our Kelowna campus.

鈥淎t 91探花, we recognize that reconciliation is not a single act, but a sustained journey 鈥 one that requires listening and humility,鈥 says Neil Fassina, 91探花 president. 鈥淲e are deeply committed to continue listening and learning as we work to advance reconciliation at 91探花 and support the healing process.鈥

On Sept. 30, 91探花 campuses will be closed, and flags will be flown at half-mast. We encourage our 91探花 community to take time to reflect and learn about the tragic and painful history of residential schools, engage in events and activities in your community, wear an orange shirt or engage in other ways that are meaningful you.

An important aspect in the journey toward reconciliation is recognizing the importance of place. 91探花 respectfully acknowledges that our Penticton, Kelowna and Vernon campuses are located on the lands of the Syilx Okanagan People, and the Salmon Arm campus is located on the lands of the Secw茅pemc People. We honour our relations and hold up their knowledge, welcoming all to our house of learning.
