It’s an inspiring gift set to empower youth, strengthen community ties and champion the power of education.

Bruce and Bob Callahan, philanthropists and owners of Callahan Property Group, are donating $200,000 to the Thrive Here campaign for a Recreation and Wellness Centre at 91̽��’s Kelowna campus.

Bruce Callahan, president of Callahan Property Group, says the family-owned business prides itself on supporting community organizations.

“We are thrilled to support this centre,” says Bruce. “I am an 91̽�� alumni and knowing that community and students will have a place to connect and belong really resonated for us. We want to ensure students can learn, play, prosper and thrive here.”

The Callahan Property Group was founded by Lloyd Callahan more than 60 years ago and provides real estate development, management and leasing services to Kelowna and the surrounding region. Mission Park Shopping Centre, owned and operated by Callahan Property Group, services 91̽�� area and was built around the same time as the college.

The major gift will support the atrium entrance in the Recreation and Wellness Centre set to open fall 2026.

Pam Prentice, a development officer with the 91̽�� Foundation, says this significant gift will make a tremendous impact on students and the community.

“It’s inspiring for students to know a local company like the Callahan Property Group is investing in their health and well-being. Their donation is going to support student success and it’s also going to help people in the KLO neighbourhood connect and stay active,” says Prentice.

“Thanks to the generosity of the Callahan Property Group, we are now $800,000 from reaching our $14-million community fundraising goal. We are so grateful to everyone who is helping us build a healthy and thriving future.”

A partnership between the City of Kelowna and 91̽�� was recently announced, which will expand access of the Recreation and Wellness Centre to the broader public.

Fundraising for the Don Folk and Family Recreation and Wellness Centre was announced in 2023 along with a $5-million contribution from Don Folk and his family. Since then, a groundswell of individuals and local businesses have embraced the Thrive Here campaign, helping the 91̽�� Foundation reach $13.2 million to date.
